What are the dangers of black mold that is growing on a painted wall? Please give me some tips to remove?

Our fireplace chimney is leaking and on the other side of the wall , which is in my son bedroom, there is black mold growing on the wall. The wall is painted but it is coming thru the paint. The same thing is happening on the ceiling as well. Im very afraid of this situation. Can anyone help?
