My baby refuses to sleep unless he is being held or snuggled?

This has resulted in him ending up in our bed at night, which I know is not safe nor ideal (he is 6 weeks tomorrow). He will cry though unless he is held and then he immediately falls asleep. He is a very good baby, exclusively nursed and is totally happy as long as he is held. I've tried letting him cry at night and it wont stop he will do it for over an hour and my husband has to get up at 4:30 to go to work. I want to transition him to the crib at around 3 months but since I nurse him and he wakes every 2 hours at night to eat, I don't want to put him in crib yet. Thanks!
