How much more dangerous than a car is a motorcycle in rural areas?

If you're just CONSIDERING riding, and you're this concerned about the dangers of riding versus driving, then you should stick to four wheels my friend. Being wary is one thing. Being worried it another entirely. If you're this worried about it before ever riding, you'll never relax while riding, which defeats the purpose. You have to be conscious of the dangers ociated with motorcycling, but not obsessed with them. You sound rather obsessed with safety. You'll be safer in a four wheeled vehicle. No doubt about it. Some of us choose to throw caution to the wind, and ride, others don't. If safety is your primary concern, drive. If enjoying your life is a bigger priority, then take a course, learn to ride, buy a bike, and go!
