News reporting?

Don't know if anyone feels the same as me but I live in the uk and and i am unhappy at the way a certain type of news event is reported. Basically you may for example hear of a bus crashing in say austrailia or in anyother country for example what i dont like is the fact that because say one brit was on board the bus or indeed dies it then becomes a news item. My point is surely this is giving the wrong impression a statement such as 6 people on bus died and one was british is surely saying a british live is worth more than any other life anyway that is the impression that i am getting from these types of reports and I think it is wrong what do you think?
